Today is a special anniversary of sorts at the Thompson household. One year ago today, we got to bring Sydney home from the hospital. The 18 days she spent in NICU were the longest of my life and we are so fortunate to have a healthy little girl! The pictures above was our favorite of the staff that helped save Sydney's life, Dr. Stenzel and Nurse Dawn. They were absolutely incredible. We were so fortunate to have such a great staff (ok, a couple I didn't like, but they helped Sydney get better!!) In 2007, Blank Children did not have one death in the NICU. That is absolutely incredible, especially considering all of the special needs that come in there. I often wonder how Jason, a baby that was in the next room to Sydney is doing. He was in NICU for 5 months and got to go home while Sydney had her stay.
The last picture is of the day that we all got to come home as a family! Many people report being scared when they bring home their newborn. I don't remember that feeling, but instead a feeling of relief. It took several months before I could look at pictures of Sydney in the hospital and not bawl.
Since Sydney was ill during her 12 month check up, she went in a got some of her shots today as well as blood drawn to test iron levels and for lead. What a way to celebrate the day!
Happy anniversary, Sydney! We love you!!
