Children's toys & products

As I had posted on an earlier blog, I was a supporter of the bill that banned lead & other nasty chemicals in children's products.  While I still stand behind my belief, I am disappointed at how poorly the bill ended up being written.  When the law goes into affect next month, small ma & pa shops who make handmade toys, diapers, and the like will be forced to shut down or operate illegally.  It is simply not feasible for most small businesses to pay the thousands of dollars needed to test each product.  Enjoy purchasing children's products at craft shows?  You won't be able to.  Support efforts of reducing landfill waste by purchasing WAHM (work at home mom) made diapers?  They will be forced to close there doors too.  Thanks, Maggie for posting a link to the Handmade Toy Alliance.  You can find a petition that will be sent to the CPSIA and learn more about the concerns.

Wow, I had no idea! This makes me really sad that Josephine and I wont be able to do craft shows the same! My mom and I run a booth most years and I've appreciated taking the time off these past couple to just browse with baby but just the thought that that might not be possible is enough to get my lazy-not-so-political-butt off my chair!

stupid laws.... should just, .... I hate politics! dang it! ::kicks ground and pouts::

There has been some modification to the rules since I posted it. I would do a search to find out the latest. I think homemade stuff is good, at least for the next year now, but not sure.
