A year ago today was Sydney's due date. I swore I was going to have her early, surprise surprise when I ended up having her a week later than her due date, with the help of modern medicine! I was so huge and uncomfortable. From weeks 38-40 of pregnancy, I had gained over 7 lbs of water weight. All of the Doctors told me there would be no way I would make it to to her due date. I started having contractions before my Drs. appointment on week 40 and swore that was the day. My Dr. thought the same thing! When the contractions started, I called Jon home from work and we proceeded to bake. I heard that you know its time to go to the hospital when the contractions are too painful to bake and who doesn't want sweets while they are pregnant? I ended up baking a yummy lemon cake and Jon fixed lunch. Then the contractions stopped. Our little Pookie decided she was going to be an October baby instead!! Here is a "lovely" picture of me at the hospital right before I was induced, a week later. (Although I was having contractions at the time, I just hadn't started feeling them yet. What was I thinking in turning down the epidural?? Ouchie!!) By the time they rolled me into the operating room, I was shaking so much from the pain that they couldn't give me an epidural/spinal and had to knock me out cold. Despite of all of the problems that surrounded Sydney's birth, we got a pretty awesome daughter out of the deal! We are so fortunate & blessed. I can't believe she will be turning one next week! Happy due date, Pookie!! I love you!
